Physical Security

Any good TSCM programme relies on good physical security.

This can be achieved by:

  A good access control policy.
Cleaners and contractors should only be allowed supervised access to sensitive areas.
Doors to sensitive rooms must be kept locked whenever possible but particularly outside normal working hours.
Quality locks that prevent tampering should be fitted to all high-risk areas.
A quality alarm system with remote alerting should be installed.
Key issue should be restricted and recorded.
Consideration should be given to the fitment of a good overt or covert CCTV system to record all activity in the sensitive area.

The problem is that so many people find it 'inconvenient' to lock their doors and restrict the issue of keys.........they do so at their peril.

Remember:

Alarms and locks provide noise and time. They are not a guarantee against illegal access.
